SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for product design and development of PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) resistor. Development of new formulations and new products through a background of material science, polymer and ceramic processing. Manage the design, prototyping, and testing of products to ensure they meet the guidelines for standards and functionality. Create a product design that fulfills company’s or customers’ goals while integrating the needs of marketing, sales, and manufacturing departments. Test new product designs and draft specifications for manufacturing.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected):
- Identify the needs and goals for a new product, evaluate market needs, existing competition, and potential costs.
- Manage the design, prototyping, and testing of products to ensure they meet the guidelines for standards and functionality.
- Analyze different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances and other factors in the developmental process. After refining and reviewing initial designs, deliver specifications and procedures to manufacturing teams who can then begin production.
- Interpret, analyses test data to perform root cause analysis and improve corrective action.
- Suggest new product ideas and maintain records for potentially patentable ideas.
- Look at existing processes and products to identify areas where they can be improved, which includes updating current documentation.
- Develop, update, and maintain DFMEAs and help in the development of PFMEAs and the process control plans. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Ceramic Material and Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years of product development experience. Experience with passive component development, polymer processing, ceramic processing and PCB processing are highly desirable.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of surge protection technology with emphasis on Multifuse protection components. Engineering background in surge protective devices and a basic understanding of general application circuits that require protection.
