Job Description:

 

  1. SUMMARY OF POSITION:  Reporting to the Vice President of Global Quality of Bourns, Inc. (the “Company”) and as part of the divisional leadership staff, the Quality Director for the Sensors Division in Asia and Europe is primarily responsible for:
  1. Ensuring the end-to-end customer satisfaction of the Sensors division customer base in Asia and Europe;
  2. Organizing, planning, and implementing a best-in-class Quality Management System that delivers flawless new product development and prevents quality & reliability problems on existing products of the sensor division in the regions;
  3. Driving zero-defect mentality across all functional areas during the entire product life cycle, from concept development to end-of-life;
  4. Driving standardization of business processes, systems, and best practices within all functions to maximize customer satisfaction, manage risk and enable profitable growth of the business;
  5. Lead the supplier development function globally

 

This position develops and executes the quality strategy for all the sensors division product lines in Asia and Europe in alignment with Bourns’ Global Quality and the Sensors Division leadership. The Quality Director works diligently to ensure all manufacturing plants and design sites of the Sensors Division in Asia and Europe comply with all applicable quality systems standards, product safety, quality reliability regulatory agencies, the Bourns Quality System and customer specific requirements.

 

 

  1. DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected): The Sensors Division Quality Director for Asia and Europe is responsible to:

 

  • Develop and deploy the quality strategy for the Sensors Division in Asia and Europe to achieve best-in-class quality
  • Participate in internal and external escalated issues with significant impact to customer satisfaction or risk to Bourns in the regions. Involves the required leadership of the business and the Global Quality function, as necessary
  • Defines and drives relevant KPIs to follow the quality organization´s focus areas and strategic improvements needed
  • Sets aggressive quality goals for the division’s manufacturing plants in the regions through benchmarking, customer specific and Bourns requirements
  • Engages with all relevant functional areas in the New Product Development process to ensure flawless launches in Asia and Europe with zero 1st time DV/PV failures, achieving on time quality & reliability project objectives with no customer disruptions.
  • Define and drive implementation of best practices and lessons learned across the region, including manufacturing plants, design sites and applicable business functions. Coordinate with quality directors for sensors division in other regions to ensure lessons learned are deployed.
  • Ensuring functional safety requirements are consistently met
  • Establish an audit system to ensure effective compliance of the QMS at all design and manufacturing sites in the region
  • Improve quality systems, standards, and methods through internal and external benchmarking.
  • Lead the Supplier Development quality function globally, ensuring all sites for the division are properly supported. Develop the strategy for the supplier development function in coordination with the divisional purchasing and design teams.
  • Educate, train, and develop the quality team within the regions to achieve results oriented, top performance and solid succession plans.
  • Participate in budget planning and operational compliance with it.
  • Drive zero defect, built-in quality, mentality with strong focus on the customer
  • Follows company policies, rules, procedures and goals.
  • Other relevant activities as directed by the VP of Global Quality

BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required.  Strong preference in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial engineering areas; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • QUALITY MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE:
    • 10+ years of experience in quality management within a global automotive manufacturing environment.
    • 5+ years in a leadership role, managing multiple sites and working with OEM or Tier 1 automotive customers.
    • 3+ years of experience managing automotive products with functional safety requirements.
    • 3+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, operations and product management. Frequent interaction with divisional level leadership.
    • 5+ years in roles requiring frequent customer facing interactions and relationship building.
    • Expert level knowledge of quality tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, Capability Index, Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and/or Erro-proofing.
    • Hands-on experience with ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949, and VDA 6.3 standards for product design and manufacturing.
    • Proven ability to coach and develop individuals and teams (both remotely and on site) to deliver breakthrough results and strong succession plans.
    • Problem-Solving Proficiency:
      • Strong root cause analysis skills and expert level use of the 8D problem-solving methodology.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead multifunctional teams to resolve complex problems while communicating effectively with customers and company executives.
    • Strongly Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
  • Experience in electronic sensor manufacturing for the automotive industry.
  • Experience in design engineering, test validation, operations or reliability engineering roles.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Shainin Master certification.
  • VDA 6.3 certification, ISO 9001:2015/IATF 16949 Lead Auditor certification, or ASQ Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence certification (or equivalent).      
  • Proficient use of statistical software such as Minitab or Jump.
