SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for testing the electronic functions of assemblies, components, and parts using standard test equipment and procedures. Troubleshoots and performs repairs to test equipment as required. Compiles data, writes reports, and makes sketches and drawings to support test results.
This is a temporary position lasting 6 months, with the potential for a full-time offer based on performance and business needs.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected):
1. Schedules and performs tests on prototypes, new products, and existing product lines to determine their conformance to quality control standards and engineering specifications while monitoring and reporting on project progress.
2. Performs Electrical and Mechanical tests on a wide variety of Bourns® components.
3. Designs and/or fabricates test fixtures for new requirements or updates current fixtures.
4. Assembles and connects system components (e.g. cables).
5. Prepares reports and statistical summaries on test results for publication to Engineering, Marketing, and/or customers.
6. Provides recommendations for improvement in test procedures or modifications to ensure effective and reliable test methods.
7. Originates failure reports on non-conforming products, recording type and quantity of defects; makes recommendations for further testing and analysis.
8. Sets up the program and verifies chamber profiles.
9. Sets up the program and verifies vibration and shock profiles.
10. Maintains and installs environmental test chambers, and mechanical and electrical test equipment and makes repairs to equipment, as required.
11. Sets up and operates various electronic, mechanical, and environmental test equipment.
12. Consults with and advises engineers, product designers, marketing, product line managers, and other personnel regarding product testing and possible problems.
13. Originates equipment operating procedures as well as standard operating procedures and safety requirements.
14. Makes recommendations for equipment purchases and/or replacements to ensure that equipment is capable of measuring product performance or performing required testing.
15. Functions as a team member and makes recommendations and implements approved changes for cycle time reduction, on-time delivery, and continuous improvement.
16. Assists and trains other technicians when required.
BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma plus two years of college or technical school training in electronics.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of electronic components with minimum of four (4) years of experience as Electronic Test Technician, with equipment troubleshooting and maintenance experience.
OTHER SKILLS:
1. Previous experience as electronic technician or similar role with good electrical and mechanical aptitude.
2. Read electrical schematics and sketches for fixtures, tooling, and special equipment.
3. Create drawings, schematics for fixtures, tooling, and special equipment.
4. Hands-on experience with electronic testing and circuitry equipment trouble-shoot simple electronic circuits.
5. Solve mathematical problems.
6. Experienced with Microsoft Excel.
7. Experienced with Microsoft word.
8. Experienced with Microsoft Access
9. Experienced with programing with LabView.
10. Experienced with programing with Arduino.
11. Experienced with programing with Python.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Good oral communication skills are required to present improvement ideas and communicate test results and problems to internal departments. Good written skills are required to communicate to prepare test result reports and present equipment or procedure improvement ideas.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Operates various electronic, mechanical, and environmental test equipment such as oscilloscope, digital multimeter, toolmaker’s microscope and rotational life cycle and vibration systems. Proficient with personal computer and office software such as Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
