Job Title: Logistics and Purchasing Coordinator
Location: Heredia, Costa Rica 

 

 

POSITION OBJECTIVE 

Responsible for strategically leading purchasing operations, sourcing, material planning, and international logistics at Bourns Costa Rica, ensuring operational continuity through efficient supplier, inventory, import, and export management. This role supervises and develops the purchasing and logistics team, ensuring compliance with cost, quality, delivery, service, and regulatory objectives aligned with corporate standards and business needs.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Lead and supervise the Purchasing, Import, and Export teams, ensuring optimal department performance while promoting talent development and team effectiveness.

• Coordinate sourcing and purchasing strategies to guarantee operational continuity, production plan compliance, and expected financial results.

• Oversee material planning and inventory control processes to achieve optimal inventory turnover.

• Meet key departmental KPIs such as OTD, inventory levels, costs, lead time, excess & obsolete (E&O), logistics costs, and supplier delivery performance.

• Manage strategic supplier relationships and pricing negotiations, including contracts when applicable, with local and international suppliers.

• Coordinate import and export processes, ensuring customs, regulatory, and corporate compliance.

• Follow up on critical shipments, supply risks, and logistics contingencies that may impact operations.

• Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to ensure alignment of operational objectives.

• Actively respond to requirements established through the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.

• Implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, inventory optimization, and service improvement.

• Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal procedures, and ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 standards.

• Prepare executive reports and strategic analyses for Management related to Supply Chain performance.

• Support internal, external, and corporate audits related to logistics, purchasing, and international trade.

• Coordinate and execute Engineering project requirements related to new products, cost savings, and continuous improvement.

• Lead automation, digitalization, and process improvement projects within the Supply Chain area.

• Maintain a culture of safety, compliance, and teamwork within the department.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Buyer Planner, Material Planner, or similar Supply Chain roles within medical, electronics, or advanced manufacturing industries. 

• Advanced knowledge of SAP (MRP, Purchasing, Inventory Management). 

• Intermediate to advanced English level. 

• Knowledge of demand planning, inventory control, and supply chain analysis. 

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools. 

• Desirable knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 standards. 

• Experience in managing international suppliers and logistics processes. 

 

EDUCATION 

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics, or related field.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Supply Chain, Purchasing, or Logistics within the medical device, electronics, or advanced manufacturing industry. 

 

 

ADDITIONAL TRAINING 

  • Experience in supplier negotiations.

• Knowledge of project management.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience leading work teams.

• Advanced SAP knowledge (MRP, Purchasing, Inventory Management, and Supply Chain).

• Strong knowledge of international logistics, imports, exports, and international trade.

• English proficiency level B2+.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.

• Knowledge of demand analysis, material planning, and inventory management.

• Preferred knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement.

• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards.

• Constant interaction with corporate teams, global suppliers, and internal manufacturing departments.
