Reports To: Quality Director
Hiring Rate: $98,103 annually
Incentive Opportunity: Eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

 

About the Opportunity

Bourns is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead the Quality function at our Utah Operations site. This role will oversee quality systems, compliance, audits, supplier quality, customer requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives while leading and developing the site Quality team.

 

Summary of Position

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the site Quality function to ensure that products, services, and processes meet or exceed established quality standards, with the goal of achieving customer satisfaction. This position develops and implements quality assurance systems, leads audits, manages the Quality team, and collaborates with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement across Utah Operations throughout the manufacturing process to ensure adherence to standards at each stage.

 

Data & Performance Management: Collect and analyze data to identify trends and areas of weakness, track performance metrics, and define, delegate, and monitor quality goals aligned with the Organization’s objectives.

Audits & Compliance: Conduct internal and external audits to assess quality systems, identify areas for improvement, and report findings to management; ensure compliance with occupational safety, health, and environmental standards.

Supplier Quality: Manage the selection, evaluation, approval, and monitoring of suppliers of raw materials, products, and services that directly impact product quality.

Customer & Stakeholder Relations: Communicate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure clear understanding of quality requirements; identify and understand customer expectations to ensure products meet their needs.

Continuous Improvement: Encourage and support continuous improvement processes and Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 6S, to increase productivity and reduce lead times, defects, and unnecessary costs; coordinate and develop solutions to quality, manufacturing, and technical problems with other department heads.

Team Leadership & Development: Provide training on quality standards and best practices; hold periodic one-on-one meetings to follow up on tasks and concerns, correct deviations, and make timely decisions; conduct performance evaluations for staff in charge within established timelines.

Culture & Engagement: Promote activities that strengthen the organizational culture and create a positive team environment, fostering motivation, teamwork, and customer service.

  • Coordinate and direct technical and administrative aspects with the team regarding the anticipation and identification of problems and risks and control the proper use of resources necessary to ensure the quality of raw materials, inputs, and finished products.
  • Ensure that staff under their supervision comply with the Internal Work Regulations and the policies established by the Organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Scheduling and Planning

Plan and organize the Quality department’s workload to meet site and customer goals. Manage the queue of customer complaints and quality issues, follow up on corrective actions, and balance short- and long-range planning as necessary.

 

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electronics, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering; Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.

Experience: More than 7 years of experience in a similar quality role, including experience leading a team.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF16949 standards, Quality Management Systems, and the Toyota Production System (TPS).

Certifications: Six Sigma certification preferred.

Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
