I. BASIC PURPOSE:
The Magnetics Prototype Assembly Technician will be responsible for assembling and testing prototype magnetic components and systems for research and development projects. The role requires a hands-on technician with expertise in precision assembly, electrical testing, and troubleshooting of magnetic devices. You will work closely with engineers and designers to ensure the successful fabrication of prototypes for advanced magnetic systems.
II. DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected):
- Prototype Assembly: Assemble and modify magnetic prototypes, including coils, transformers, inductors, and magnetic materials, following detailed instructions and blueprints.
- Soldering and Wiring: Perform precision soldering, wiring, and component placement on circuit boards and magnetic assemblies.
- Testing & Calibration: Conduct electrical and mechanical testing on magnetic prototypes, ensuring proper functionality, performance, and adherence to specifications.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues during assembly or testing phases, including electrical faults, mechanical failures, or design-related problems.
- Collaboration with Engineering Team: Work closely with engineers to review assembly procedures, provide feedback on design feasibility, and recommend improvements based on testing outcomes.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all assembly work, tests, and modifications, and ensure proper labelling and inventory management of components.
- Quality Control: Ensure all prototypes meet quality standards and specifications before delivery to engineers for further analysis or testing.
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and best practices while handling magnetic materials and electrical components.
III. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, present and recommend ideas and solutions. Success comes from the ability to develop strong relationships with the “engineering group” internally.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
ORAL: Excellent English required. Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and team members.
WRITTEN: Excellent written skills in English required to present data and ideas via test reports, and power point presentations
V. BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent
- Experience in prototype development for magnetic systems, transformers, or inductors.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrable experience in electronics assembly, magnetic device assembly, or related fields.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with PCB assembly and soldering techniques (including surface mount and though-hole) preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings preferred.
OTHER SKILLS:
- Mechanical Dexterity: Skilled in working with small components and precise assembly, including the use of hand tools and specialized equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and propose solutions to improve prototype designs.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and precision during the assembly and testing processes.
