POSITION: NEW PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, SR
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Provides process design and development support for the Gas Discharge Tube (GDT/IsoMOV) product line. This engineer will provide leadership in the design and documentation activities related to GDT/IsoMOV manufacturing processes and working with the NPD team to bring new processes to the manufacturing floor.
The New Process Development Engineer is expected to allow innovative GDT/IsoMOV designs to be manufactured at acceptable costs. Poke yoke, automation and process control will be the cornerstone of successful projects. The GDT/IsoMOV Process Engineer will be a key driver of changing our manufacturing mentality from yield-based thinking to process control thinking.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Design and develop new GDT/IsoMOV manufacturing processes that support our best GDT/IsoMOV designs. This includes providing full documentation of GDT/IsoMOV manufacturing processes including PFMEA documentation, machine concept drawings, factory layouts concepts, and tooling drawings.
2. Perform and document experiments on various aspects of GDT/IsoMOV processing elements to drive to optimal process controls given certain manufacturing space and cost constraints.
3. Lead assigned investigations that may reveal certain weaknesses in existing processes and recommend process design changes to correct those weaknesses.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Communication and negotiation are key skills that will help lead to success in working with other team members as well as production management and associates. A friendly disposition would be a tremendous asset for the engineer in this role.
SCHEDULING AND PLANNING:
Must plan, evaluate and commit to new product development tasks and schedules in MS Project
COMMUNICATIONS:
ORAL :
Excellent verbal skills are required to clearly communicate goals and concepts to all levels of employees, customer engineers and vendors.
WRITTEN:
Excellent written skills are required to issue specific work instructions, present ideas, concepts, and solutions to all levels of employees, customers and vendors through PowerPoint presentations, emails, Excel & Mini-Tab graphs & charts, Word reports, etc.
BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Technical bachelor’s degree, preference for Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A working knowledge of inorganic chemistry, electrical circuits and mechanical engineering is required. Experience in designing and performing Designed Experiments in Mini-Tab is crucial. Excellent skills in manipulating and charting data in MS Excel is a must. MS Project, MS Word and MS PowerPoint are all key software applications that will be in play daily.
OTHER SKILLS:
A working knowledge of Quality Systems is key to working the NPD process. Time management and organizational skills are needed to juggle several projects simultaneously. SolidWorks 3D CAD and/or FEA modeling skills are a highly valuable.
