I. BASIC PURPOSE:
The Facilities function has responsibility for all facility supplies and services including the crucial feed into our Wafer Fabrication manufacturing area. ‘Facilities Technicians’ are an essential team who support both the manufacturing area with continuous supply of key services on demand from the central plant room/services areas and the site as a whole.
II. DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected):
- To help and maintain all plant and service equipment to a maintenance schedule to ensure optimum performance.
- To operate and maintain the site de-ionized water plant.
- To assist with repairs to sustain site service and maintain production.
- Implement plant modifications to accommodate changes in processing procedures and new technology/techniques.
- Undertake capital work to provide increased capacity, production of new products and to meet environmental requirements.
- Complete Electrical/Mechanical breakdowns and new Installs and provide Mechanical support as required.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and its scheduling.
- Follow prescribed safe systems of working at all times, ensuring adherence to all Company and legislative procedures and requirements.
- Actively participate and lead initiatives in the company’s continuous improvement program.
- Perform any other tasks reasonably requested to meet business objectives.
III. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Ability to build credibility quickly to provide support/assistance to Manufacturing Shift Leaders and manufacturing support personnel.
- Excellent listening skills required to take work instruction accurately.
- Strong teamwork skills and experience
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
ORAL:
- Effective communicator to be able to liaise with equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and service engineers, as well as colleagues within the Facilities team and wider Bedford plant.
WRITTEN:
- Ability to document processes and procedures to ensure information is retained and shared.
V. SCHEDULING AND PLANNING:
Plans workload to ensure assigned project activities are completed within given timescales.

VII. BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Minimum BTEC Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in Electrical Engineering.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated ability to perform the above functions, combined with experience and the proven capability to effectively support, sustain and drive forward Continuous Improvement initiatives.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrate good electrical/mechanical engineering understanding.
- Good general knowledge and experience with Facilities equipment – pumps, pipe fitted etc.
- Can diagnose and repair electrical/mechanical faults.
- Designing electrical layouts, including wiring pathways and fixtures.
- Inspecting electrical systems, transformers and circuit breakers.
- Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Experienced in the running of De-Ionized Plant.
OTHER SKILLS:
Good time management and organizational skills. Capable of managing own work and deliverables with little supervision. A strong team player, detail oriented, performs well under pressure.
Flexible and able to work in a demanding environment, working a 6-week rotating pattern covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with a combination of morning, afternoon and night shifts.
